The Dark Jester Ensemble Men's Costume
OVERVIEW
From medieval courts to Renaissance banquets and Mardi Gras celebrations, the court jester has been around to amuse us for centuries. No character was more recognizable either in the royal court or the Renaissance stage than the Jester.
Our interpretation of this famous costume has much darker overtones. This three-piece ensemble includes the tunic, the collar, and pants. The tunic has a dark red taffeta and black velvet harlequin pattern on the front with a solid black velvet back, along with lace-up sides. Features include a gold embroidered Mandarin color and velvet-edged shoulder caps that have period slits, revealing a rich golden trim, with heavy-duty hook & eye closures running down the front.
The sunray collar is made of matching taffeta and black velvet with 16 various-sized points. The 8 longer points each have a golden bell sewn to the end. The matching black velvet period knee breeches are lined and sport a flat front with a generous elastic waistband in the rear and have hidden slit pockets. Stitched decorative ribbon bands adorn the pants along with golden roped garters. The wide bottom cuff has buttons for adjustability.
