These Pontus, Amisos – Ares type coins were struck under Mithradates VI, one of the most powerful and defiant rulers to challenge Rome in the 1st century BC. Minted at Amisos, a major Black Sea port and royal center, the coins feature Ares, the god of war, symbolizing military strength, resilience, and readiness for conflict. The imagery reflects Mithradates VI’s aggressive posture against Roman expansion and his role as a champion of Greek culture and independence in Asia Minor, making these coins both historically charged and visually striking. Encapsulated in an NGC slab, the coin is preserved and authenticated, highlighting its historical significance and collectability.
